Experienced elder law attorneys are skilled in working with people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other very serious and life ending illnesses and are able to flush out the information they need to determine a person’s ability to make planning decisions and to counsel and advise them as to who may be the most appropriate decision maker for the type of “job” (medical, financial, life time after death) to be done and will do so with a sensitivity to the circumstances of the loved one and their family member.

Sometimes if the husband and a wife execute their documents at the same time and even at the patient’s home the fear of the unknown may lessen and the person with the diagnosis will be able to hear what is being said and understand enough to be able to appropriately understand and sign documents.

Once an “agent” decision maker has been legally appointed the patient can delegate to them all of the steps that need to be taken to protect their interests.
